The Matrix
Are We in Danger
Will Artificial Intelligence Turn Humans into Batteries
In 1999, Warner Bros released the chilling movie, “The Matrix,” that would be known as the most memorable artificial intelligence depiction that has ever been created.
Neo, a character played by MTV award winning actor Keanu Reeves, finds himself questioning the realism of his life. He spends his days going by Thomas A. Anderson, a normal computer programmer that works for a major software company, however, he spends his nights using his skills to steal and sell illegal programs.
Because of so much time spent hacking into restricted websites, Neo discovers the term “Matrix,” and has been spending his nights trying to uncover the mystery behind the word.
Knowing what Neo is searching for, Morphius, a notorious terrorist computer hacker played by Laurence Fishburne, tracks down Neo to show him a chilling truth about his suspicions. The interactions between the two cause the police to chase after Neo in search of finding the location of Morphius in exchange for dismissing his cybercrimes.
Neo wakes up in his bed after being probed with a bug-like creature in the police interrogation room; he is contacted by Morphius and given instructions where to run to. When the two meet, Morphius explains that Neo has a strange feeling because he exists in “a false reality that has been constructed for humans to hide the truth” IMBD.
Being a talented computer hacker, Neo has begun to understand how his world acts like it were coded by a software developer; he is one of few people who have discovered “bugs” in the false reality.
Morphius offers Neo the choice of going back to live in a false reality or discovering the true extent of the Matrix; Neo chooses to know the truth. Morphius gives Neo a pill that will give off his real-life body’s location and finds him among the millions of people that are trapped in the matrix, only to be used as batteries for artificial intelligence robots.
